Press ratings
More committed position, firm but precise chassis, excellent throttle response in Dynamic mode, very smooth quickshifter; engine lacks character, firm seat.
The sensible choice: good value, adjustable fork, sporty yet comfortable ergonomics; unemotional design, quickshifter clunky at low revs, comfort-oriented rear suspension.
Lively engine, successful sportier position, neutral chassis; notchy gearbox, footpeg vibration, essential options that push the price up.
More effective in sporty riding thanks to its new geometry; less comfortable (more tiring position, hard seat), stiff quickshifter.
A successful sporty makeover, careful finish, strong engine and easy in town; less suited to touring, more strain on arms and back.
Serious and very stable, reassuring for beginners, comfortable suspension; seat too firm, stiff gearbox, engine lacking refinement.
Press synthesis
What the world’s press says
The 2025 F 900 R scores 4/5 from MCN. Visordown, 1000PS, Moto.it, SoyMotero, Motociclismo and Le Repaire des Motards tested it without a numeric score.
What reviewers like: a sportier, more precise chassis, great stability that reassures beginners, the midrange torque, the adjustable fork and the value of the base model.
What they criticise: an engine that is effective but lacks character, a gearbox and quickshifter often found stiff, a firm seat, less comfort on long rides and expensive options.
Key quotes
"It has a newfound air of sportiness and is now closer to its rivals in terms of handling, performance and thrills."
"The new 2025 BMW F900 R now feels more like a true mid-capacity naked roadster than before."
"The BMW F 900 R remains the epitome of two-wheeled sensibility in 2025."
"Ultimately, with the 2025 F 900 R, BMW seems to have found the right formula to stay competitive in a crowded and increasingly technological segment, where the line between mid-size and large-capacity bikes is becoming ever more blurred."
"It has lost some of its touring ability compared with the previous version, which had a more natural riding position, and the miles are felt more in the arms and back, but it has gained in personality and riding fun."
"It isn't the most fun bike in its class but, precisely, its stability will reassure the greatest number of riders, starting with beginners."

Our review
What sets the 2027 model year apart?
The F 900 R sold in France is the 2027 model year. According to BMW, the only change is the arrival of the maintenance-free M Endurance chain in the Comfort Package. The 2026 model year brought no changes.
The last major update came in 2025. Unveiled by BMW in November 2024, it brought:
- Euro 5+ homologation, with 93 Nm of torque (previously 92 Nm); the 105 hp output is unchanged since 2020;
- a 43 mm upside-down fork now adjustable for preload, compression and rebound;
- wheels 1.8 kg lighter and a lighter battery, for a 3 kg saving overall;
- a sportier riding position, with the bars moved forward and the footrests moved back;
- DTC traction control, ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control and the Dynamic riding mode as standard;
- a new tail whose turn signals integrate the brake and tail lights.
How much does it cost?
BMW Motorrad France lists the F 900 R at €9,500 (maximum recommended price), with an offer at €7,990 for orders placed between 1 October and 31 December 2026. The A2 version costs the same. The Triple Black (+€230) and Sport (+€675) styles change the look. Two packages add equipment:
- the Comfort Package (€800): M Endurance chain, cruise control, keyless ride and heated grips;
- the Dynamic Package (€960): Dynamic ESA semi-active suspension, up/down quickshifter, Riding Modes Pro.
How good is the engine?
The 895 cc 270-degree parallel twin makes 105 hp at 8,500 rpm and 93 Nm at 6,750 rpm. BMW quotes 0-100 km/h in 3.7 s and a top speed above 200 km/h. The A2 version makes 95 hp and comes with a 48 hp restriction.
MCN calls its midrange torque its superpower, and Moto.it finds it lively. Several tests, however, find it lacking character: short-revving and without sparkle for MCN, not very characterful for Visordown, lacking refinement and smoothness for Le Repaire des Motards. Most tests find the gearbox and optional quickshifter stiff or notchy (1000PS, Moto.it, SoyMotero, Le Repaire des Motards), although Visordown finds the quickshifter very smooth.
How does it ride?
The new, sportier position and the adjustable fork have made the F 900 R more capable: MCN now finds it close to its rivals in handling and thrills, and Visordown likens it to a “baby S1000 R”. Le Repaire des Motards stresses its great stability, reassuring for beginners, and 1000PS its sporty yet comfortable ergonomics.
The reservations concern:
- less comfort on long rides, with more strain on the arms and back (SoyMotero, Motociclismo);
- a firm seat (MCN, Visordown, SoyMotero, Le Repaire des Motards);
- vibration through the footpegs (Moto.it);
- essential options that quickly push the price up (MCN, Moto.it).
Fuel consumption and maintenance
BMW quotes 4.2 L/100 km on the WMTC cycle, giving a range of about 310 km from the 13-litre tank. No foreign press test published a precise measurement. The owner’s manual specifies a service with oil change every 10,000 km or every year, and a valve clearance check every 20,000 km. BMW France provides a 3-year unlimited-mileage warranty.
Recalls
No recall was found for the current generation, in France (RappelConso) or the United States (NHTSA).
