Husqvarna 701 Supermoto

2027 Husqvarna 701 Supermoto: 79 hp, 692.7 cc single-cylinder supermoto, 152 kg, €12,149. Full specs, press reviews and rivals.

At a glance

The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto is a road-going supermoto powered by the 692.7 cc, 79 hp LC4 single, in a chassis weighing 152 kg without fuel that it shares with the KTM 690 SMC R. Priced at €12,149 in France, the same as its Austrian cousin, it has gained a connected TFT dash, four-mode cornering ABS and longer service intervals since the 2026 generation, but Track mode and the quickshifter remain optional. The few tests of this generation praise its engine, front end and electronics, and criticise its price, a tall and firm seat, a rough single at very low revs and the lack of a fuel gauge.

Press ratings

MCN2021-11

Rating given to the previous generation ("2015-on" review, updated in 2021, 74 hp): remarkable engine for punch, smoothness and economy, light and effective chassis, superb build quality; high price, limited practicality, 13-litre tank.

5/5
1000PS2026-09

Track test of the 2026 generation, no score: very well-balanced production supermoto, 79 hp engine, ContiAttack SM2 tyres, convincing TFT dash and electronics; fork a little soft for track use, front ABS intervening early at the limit, Track mode optional, seat cover offering little support.

ActuMoto.ch2026-09

One-week road test of the 2026 generation with the optional Quickshifter+, no score: rich electronics adjustable on the move, stable front end, strong brakes, well-calibrated quickshifter; rough single below 3,000 rpm, no fuel gauge, firm and tall seat, multiple menus, no 12 V socket.

NastyNils (Nils Mueller)2026-07

Supermoto track test of the 2026 generation by the founder of 1000PS, no score: instant confidence, excellent front-end feel, perfectly dialled engine with no snatchiness or rear wheel hop; the only real downside is the price.

Bennetts BikeSocial2020-07

Test of the 2020 model year (previous generation, 74 hp): a rare road supermoto that really works thanks to its engine, suspension and electronics (traction control, cornering ABS); expensive, finish could be better, "you have to be in the mood".

Visordown2024-05

Test of the 2019 model year (previous generation, 74 hp): huge fun, lively chassis, good match between engine torque and gearbox; hard and tall seat, small tank, limited to being a toy.

Motorcycle.com2016-02

Test of the 2016 launch model (690 cc): strong and smooth engine, stable and agile chassis, surprising comfort; occasional missed shifts, abrupt front brake, no wind protection.

Le Repaire des Motards2015-11

Test of the 2016 launch model, in the rain alongside the 701 Enduro: excellent chassis/suspension balance, precise front end, thin seat for long rides; test considered insufficient to gauge all of the Supermoto's abilities.

Press synthesis

What the world’s press says

The 2026 generation, carried over unchanged for 2027, has been tested very little: only three tests have been published, none with a numeric score. 1000PS and Nils Mueller, founder of 1000PS, on his NastyNils blog, rode it on track, and the Swiss outlet ActuMoto.ch for a week on the road. The 100/100 meta-score therefore rests on a single rating, the 5/5 MCN gave the previous generation (2015-2021, 74 hp): it does not measure the current bike and should be read with caution. The other tests cited also cover earlier generations: Bennetts BikeSocial the 2020 model year, Visordown the 2019 model year, Motorcycle.com and Le Repaire des Motards the 2016 launch model. They share the frame, the self-supporting tank and, since 2017, the 692.7 cc single with the 2026 bike.

On the 2026 generation: 1000PS describes a “blisteringly fast, versatile supermoto” and likes the 79 hp engine, the TFT dash and the electronics, but finds the fork a little soft on track and the front ABS quick to intervene at the limit, and regrets that Track mode is optional and that the seat cover offers little support. ActuMoto.ch praises rich electronics adjustable on the move, a stable front end, strong brakes and a well-calibrated quickshifter; it criticises a rough single below 3,000 rpm, the lack of a fuel gauge, a firm and tall seat and multiple menus. Nils Mueller praises the confidence it inspires and its front-end feel, and finds only one fault: the price.

On earlier generations: MCN praised a powerful, smooth and frugal engine, a light chassis and superb quality, while noting the price and the small tank. BikeSocial saw it as one of the few road supermotos that really work, though expensive and with a finish that could be better. Visordown highlighted the fun it delivers, with a hard seat and limited use; Motorcycle.com a strong, smooth engine but an abrupt front brake; Le Repaire des Motards an excellent chassis/suspension balance.

Key quotes

"That said, the Husky delivers a blisteringly fast, versatile supermoto that makes a powerful impression even with its indicators, number plate and standard tyres."

1000PS — 2026-09

"The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto does not try to please everyone, and that is precisely what makes it strong. With its expressive engine, effective chassis and well-thought-out electronics, it offers an authentic and engaging riding experience."

ActuMoto.ch — 2026-09 (Originally in Français)

"Downsides? I’m struggling, honestly. It’s expensive, that’s the one."

NastyNils (Nils Mueller) — 2026-07

"Fabulous sub-80mph fun, most of the practicality of a middleweight twin, superb quality, and the air of the exotic – the Husqvarna 701 might not be the obvious choice in today’s capacity-mad world, but the 701 has the potential to revitalise your riding."

MCN — 2021-11

"But as a daft distraction for one or two summers while I made the transition to being a proper grown-up rider, or commuting through busy towns and getting the last parking spot first, I haven't ridden a better bike."

Bennetts BikeSocial — 2020-07

"If you are looking for a machine that’ll deliver all the thrills of a 200bhp machine but struggle to get you a speeding ticket on a motorway – a Husqvarna 701 Supermoto should definitely be on your next bike test ride hitlist."

Visordown — 2024-05

"As evil, mean and nasty types go, the 701 Supermoto is a real angel."

Motorcycle.com — 2016-02

"The 701s each benefit from an excellent chassis/suspension balance. Being adjustable, the suspensions optimise the bikes' behaviour on their respective terrain. However, a new test of the Supermoto is needed to gauge all its abilities."

Le Repaire des Motards — 2015-11 (Originally in Français)

Our review

How much does it cost in France?

Husqvarna France sells the 2027 701 Supermoto in a single version at €12,149 (recommended retail price, excluding registration costs), exactly the price of its cousin, the 2027 KTM 690 SMC R. The Quickshifter+ and Track mode are optional. The 2026 model year, still shown on a page of the website but no longer listed in the range menu, was listed at €12,649 and offered on promotion at €11,149 in October 2026. In the UK, the 2027 bike costs £9,999, and in the United States $13,399. The French website does not mention an A2 version for this generation.

What does the 2026 generation change?

Unveiled on 9 September 2025, the new 701 Supermoto directly replaces the 2024 model year: there was no 2025 model. The LC4 single is revised for Euro 5+ and goes from 74 to 79 hp, with a higher-pressure fuel pump, an exhaust with a relocated catalyst, a redesigned airbox cover and intake trumpet, and valve timing that favours low-rev torque. Service intervals are longer: oil changes every 15,000 km instead of 10,000, valve clearance checks every 30,000 km instead of 15,000. The bike also gets a 4.2-inch landscape TFT dash, smartphone connectivity, a USB-C port, an LED headlight, new ABS modes and a white and yellow livery. The frame is slightly stiffened and the suspension settings revised. The 2027 model year carries the 2026 bike over unchanged, apart from the price.

The specification sheet on Husqvarna’s 2027 page mistakenly shows the 701 Enduro’s data (WP XPLOR fork, 21- and 18-inch wheels). The figures used here are those of the 2026 page, confirmed by the 2026 and 2027 owner’s manuals.

How good is the engine?

The 692.7 cc LC4 (105 mm bore, 80 mm stroke, 12.7:1 compression) is a single-overhead-cam, four-valve, twin-spark single, fed by Keihin fuel injection with a 50 mm throttle body and ride-by-wire. It makes 79 hp (58.1 kW) and 73 Nm; Husqvarna does not publish the corresponding revs. The six-speed gearbox comes with a hydraulically operated PASC slipper clutch and a 520 X-Ring chain. Husqvarna quotes 4.1 L/100 km and 96 g/km of CO2, without specifying the test cycle. Testers praise its power and liveliness, but ActuMoto.ch finds it rough, with marked jerkiness, below 3,000 rpm.

How does it ride?

The chromoly steel trellis frame is completed by a self-supporting polyamide fuel tank that doubles as the rear subframe, and by an aluminium swingarm. The 48 mm WP APEX upside-down fork (224 mm of travel) is adjustable for compression and rebound; the WP APEX shock with Pro-Lever linkage (240 mm) is adjustable for preload, rebound and high- and low-speed compression. Braking combines a 320 mm front disc with a four-piston radial Brembo caliper, and a 240 mm rear disc. The 17-inch spoked wheels run tubeless Continental ContiAttack SM2 tyres. Husqvarna France quotes 152 kg without fuel (153 kg in the manual), a 1,476 mm wheelbase and 237 mm of ground clearance (232 mm in the manual).

1000PS, ActuMoto.ch and Nils Mueller praise the front-end feel; 1000PS does, however, find the fork a little soft on track.

What electronics does it have?

The Bosch ABS works in corners and offers four modes: Road, Sport, Supermoto and Supermoto+, the latter allowing the rear wheel to lock on corner entry while keeping ABS at the front. The MTC traction control is lean-sensitive and can be switched off from the handlebar. The Street and Sport riding modes are standard; the optional Track mode adds launch control, five-level anti-wheelie, engine braking control (Motor Slip Regulation) and a slip adjuster. The TFT dash connects to the Ride HQV app for calls, music and Turn-by-Turn+ navigation. ActuMoto.ch regrets the lack of a fuel gauge and a menu-heavy interface.

Who is it for?

The 701 Supermoto is aimed at experienced riders looking for a light, lively bike for twisty roads, town riding and supermoto track days. Its firm 899 mm seat (886 mm in the manual), tank of about 13 litres and complete lack of wind protection limit its appeal for long journeys.

Where does it come from?

Launched for the 2016 model year on the basis of the KTM 690 SMC R, the 701 Supermoto received the 692.7 cc engine with two balance shafts in 2017, then cornering ABS and riding modes in 2020, and Euro 5 compliance in 2021. The 2026 generation is the model’s fourth.

Reliability and recalls

No recall affects the current generation (NHTSA, Safety Gate, RappelConso). The 2018 to 2020 model years were recalled for a clutch slave cylinder bellows gasket that may have been damaged during manufacturing, which could prevent the clutch from disengaging.

Wind protectionNone (supermoto with no screen)
Max total weight350 kg

The 701 Supermoto offers a supermoto riding position, upright, with a 28/22 mm tapered aluminium handlebar. Husqvarna France quotes an 899 mm seat height, the owner’s manual 886 mm unladen. ActuMoto.ch finds the seat firm and tall, hard to reach for shorter riders, and 1000PS regrets a seat cover that offers little support on track; Visordown already found the seat hard on the 2019 model, and Le Repaire des Motards too thin for long rides. There is no screen to protect the rider. The permissible total weight is 350 kg (150 kg on the front axle, 200 kg on the rear).
