Kawasaki Ninja 650
2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650: 68 hp, 194 kg, from €8,199, inverted fork and radial calipers, A2 restrictable. Full specs, press reviews and generations.
At a glance
The 2027 Kawasaki Ninja 650 keeps its 68 hp twin but gains a Showa inverted fork and radial four-piston calipers, its two weaknesses most cited by reviewers. Priced from €8,199, it can be restricted for the A2 licence and has a 4-year warranty. Tests of earlier model years praise its ease and economy, but find the engine uninspiring.

Press ratings
The most polished Ninja 650 yet: torquey engine, decent brakes, basic but adequate suspension, excellent value.
More road bike than sports bike: comfortable, accessible and well equipped for safety; chassis and brakes only average.
A sporty-looking road bike, flexible, frugal and very sound; short on top-end and brakes lacking bite.
Modest weight, smooth and flexible engine, gentle controls; rear shock sometimes harsh.

What the world’s press says
No test of the 2027 version has been published yet. On earlier model years, the Ninja 650 scores 85/100 from Motorcycle.com (2020), 4/5 from Bennetts BikeSocial (2017-2024) and 3/5 from MCN (2020). In France, Moto-Net and Le Repaire des Motards (2017 tests) praise an easy bike, suited to beginners and new A2 riders alike; Moto-Net faults its lack of top-end and brakes lacking bite.
What reviewers like: ease of use, the flexible engine, economy, finish and value for money.
What they criticise: an uninspiring engine, an average fork and brakes (fixed for 2027 according to Kawasaki), a cramped fit for tall riders and a rear shock that could be better.
Key quotes
"When I switch from the 4RR's rev-happy engine to the 650, the parallel-twin almost chugs along as calmly as a tractor engine. But that's not a disadvantage, because the overall more everyday-friendly concept is still the Ninja 650."
"Your heart wants something that looks good, and your head wants something that makes sense. That's not a compromise, that's a 650, and you should try one. Put the Ninja 650 on your short list."
"It's a solid motor, not an inspiring one."
"In the end, this Ninja 650 is neither a ZX-650R nor a Z650SX, but a remarkable sporty-looking road bike likely to appeal to riders who have just passed their A2 licence (35 kW kit available), those returning to riding, or those looking for an easy, soothing and relaxed sports bike..."

Our review
What’s new on the 2027 Ninja 650?
According to Kawasaki, the 2027 model year fixes the front end:
- a 37 mm Showa SFF-BP inverted fork replaces the 41 mm conventional fork;
- radial four-piston calipers replace the axial two-piston calipers;
- the rear spring is firmer, to match the new fork;
- the front fender is wider and the 4.3-inch TFT gets a new layout, with navigation and voice commands via the Rideology app.
The engine is unchanged. Wheelbase goes from 1,410 to 1,395 mm, seat height from 790 to 785 mm, and weight from 193 to 194 kg wet.
How much does it cost?
Kawasaki France lists the 2027 Ninja 650 at €8,349 in green or grey, and €8,199 in black. The 2026 model year remains in the range at the same prices. Kawasaki announces availability in November 2026. The warranty is 4 years with unlimited mileage.
How good is the engine?
The 649 cc parallel twin (83 x 60 mm) makes 68 hp at 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm at 6,700 rpm. A Kawasaki kit restricts it to 35 kW for the A2 licence. Reviewers find it flexible and torquey but unremarkable: “a solid motor, not an inspiring one” for BikeSocial, and short on top-end for Moto-Net.
How does it ride?
No test of the 2027 model has been published yet. Tests of the 2017 to 2024 models praise a light, easy bike suited to beginners (MCN, Le Repaire des Motards, Moto-Net, 1000PS). Their main criticisms concerned precisely what the 2027 changes: a fork and brakes rated average (1000PS, BikeSocial, Moto-Net).
Other criticisms of earlier model years may remain:
- a cramped fit for tall riders (MCN, Motorcycle.com);
- a harsh or unrefined rear shock (Le Repaire des Motards, Motorcycle.com);
- little wind protection (Motorcycle.com).
Fuel consumption and maintenance
Kawasaki quotes 4.4 L/100 km for the 2026 model year, with the same engine; the 2027 figure has not been published. Tests record 5.1 to 5.7 L/100 km, giving about 280 km of range from 15 litres. Kawasaki France’s maintenance schedule specifies an oil change every 12,000 km or every year and a valve clearance check at 42,000 km.
Recalls
No recall has concerned the Ninja 650 since 2017 on RappelConso, Safety Gate or NHTSA.
