Press ratings
Superb on road and off, a well-judged engine; weight that shows at a standstill and no heated grips as standard.
Good at everything (dash, preload knob, comfort) but lacking a strong personality; small screen, footpegs that touch down early.
An all-round talent: excellent gearbox and shifter, great stability, effective suspension, comfortable seat; slightly high consumption, protection could be better, no IMU.
A very good bike, impressively balanced, with quality suspension and a standard shifter; engine lacks charisma, heavy, weak stock protection.
Press synthesis
What the world’s press says
No test of the 2024 to 2026 model years has been published: reviews cover the 2023 launch model, which is mechanically identical. MCN and BikeSocial rate it 4/5. Visordown, RevZilla, 1000PS and Le Repaire des Motards tested it without a numeric score; 1000PS calls it an “all-round talent”.
What reviewers like: high-quality suspension, a comfortable seat and riding position, balance on road and trail, the standard quickshifter, the TFT screen and stability.
What they criticise: a 230 kg weight, limited stock wind protection, an effective but uncharismatic engine, mid-range vibrations and no IMU.
Key quotes
"If you ride 80% of the time on the road but enjoy a gravel trail from time to time on a tour or a sunny Sunday afternoon, the V-Strom should go straight on your maybe pile."
"The V-Strom 800DE isn’t a direct rival to Yamaha’s Ténéré 700 – that bike still has lightweight, off-road chuckability nailed – but instead aims for a calmer, more considered road expertise that makes it a better prospect for life on tarmac, especially where distance is concerned. If you asked me which I’d rather ride to Scotland, it’s the Suzuki."
"It’s not the most powerful on the market, listed weight is a tad heavy, but get this thing running and it’s hard to knock it."
"With the new V-Strom 800 DE, Suzuki has delivered a wonderful all-rounder. It has a personality of its own and scores points in almost every relevant assessment criterion. It feels robust, modern and well thought out."
"A very good bike, it is chosen with the head rather than the heart, and motorcycling history has taught us that winning hearts through reason is no easy task."

Our review
What is the 2026 model year?
The V-Strom 800DE arrived in 2023, between the V-Strom 650 and the V-Strom 1050. It has not changed mechanically since. The 2026 model year is Euro 5+ homologated and keeps the same specifications. It is offered in Champion Yellow No.2, Pearl Tech White and Glass Sparkle Black.
Suzuki France sells the 2026 model year alongside 2025 bikes in stock. Suzuki Motor Corporation has published an identical 2027 page, not yet announced in France.
How much does it cost?
According to Suzuki France’s press releases, the 2026 V-Strom 800DE lists at €11,299 and the 2025 at €11,799. Both are offered at €10,499 until 31 October 2026. The road version, called the V-Strom 800SE in France, costs €10,299. In the United States, the 2026 V-Strom 800DE costs $11,799.
Suzuki Germany and the UK present it as restrictable to 35 kW for the A2 licence; no Suzuki France source specifies this offer.
How good is the engine?
The 776 cc 270-degree parallel twin, balanced by two Suzuki Cross Balancer shafts, makes 84 hp (62 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 78 Nm at 6,800 rpm. The two-way quickshifter is standard.
Reviewers find it flexible and effective but not very charismatic: RevZilla and Le Repaire des Motards regret its lack of character, BikeSocial notes mid-range vibrations, 1000PS a slight lack of top-end.
How does it ride?
The fully adjustable Showa suspension, with 220 mm of travel, wins unanimous praise: BikeSocial and 1000PS praise its quality, MCN a well-suspended bike. With its 21-inch spoked front wheel and 220 mm ground clearance, it is at ease on trails but remains above all a road bike: BikeSocial finds it less playful off-road than a Ténéré 700, 22 kg lighter, and better for touring. The electronics include traction control with a gravel mode and switchable rear ABS, without an IMU.
Fuel consumption and maintenance
Suzuki quotes 4.4 L/100 km on the WMTC cycle, giving a range of about 450 km from the 20-litre tank. The foreign press recorded 4.7 to 6.1 L/100 km; 1000PS finds consumption slightly above the class average. The manual calls for an oil change every 12,000 km or 12 months and a valve clearance check every 24,000 km. Suzuki France offers a warranty of up to 10 years with unlimited mileage, provided the bike is serviced annually in the network.
Recalls
V-Strom 800DEs built from November 2022 to May 2024 were recalled for their original Dunlop rear tyre, which could crack and lose part of its tread (Safety Gate A12/02710/24, NHTSA 24V-535).
