Yamaha Tracer 9: 119 hp triple, 219 kg, €12,499, optional Y-AMT. Full specs, press reviews, generations and rivals.

At a glance

The Yamaha Tracer 9, renewed in 2025 and still sold as the '2025 model' in France in 2026, pairs the 119 hp CP3 triple with a sport-touring chassis and comprehensive electronics (IMU, cruise control, cornering lights). Priced at €12,499, it comes with an optional Y-AMT gearbox and in GT and GT+ versions. Reviewers praise the engine, agility and improved comfort, but find the Y-AMT automatic mode still in need of refinement.

What the world’s press says

The base model has received few scored reviews. The average score relies on tests of the GT+ (4/5 from MCN) and GT (8.5/10 from InMoto), which share its engine and chassis. MOTORRAD puts the Tracer 9 GT+ ‘at the top of its segment’. On the base model, Moto-Net sees an ‘excellent sport-GT compromise’, while Le Repaire des Motards, which rode the Y-AMT, prefers the manual gearbox.

What reviewers like: the CP3 triple, the agile chassis, the standard equipment and fuel economy.

What they criticise: an uncomfortable seat, insufficient wind protection on the base model and a price at its limit (Moto-Net), a Y-AMT automatic mode that still needs refinement (Moto-Net, MOTORRAD, Le Repaire); the Tracer 9 has no A2 version and the GT+ is sold only with Y-AMT.

Key quotes

"The Tracer 9, priced at €12,499 with a quickshifter, will deliver just as many thrills, make it easier to lift the front wheel and give total control over the engine."

Le Repaire des Motards — 2026-07 (Originally in Français)

"A great engine, a good chassis, top-notch protection and powerful brakes: the Tracer 9 GT+ successfully carries over its fundamentals for 2025 while adding welcome practical touches."

Moto-Net — 2025-05 (Originally in Français)

"Overall, the engine and chassis combination still offer enough excitement and thrills when the road gets twisty, but the comfort has also been improved from the previous generation too, for the most part."

MCN — 2025-06

Our review

Which Tracer 9 is on sale in 2026?

In 2026 Yamaha France sells the ‘Tracer 9 2025 model’ with no price or colour changes: €12,499 recommended retail price, valid since 1 January 2025. The range includes the Tracer 9 (manual, or Y-AMT at €13,699), the Tracer 9 GT (€15,799, or €16,999 with Y-AMT) and the Tracer 9 GT+ (€18,999, Y-AMT only). This page covers the base model. There is no A2 version.

What’s new on this generation?

The 890 cc CP3 triple (78 x 62.1 mm) carries over, now Euro 5+, with 119 hp at 10,000 rpm and 93 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Yamaha redesigned the bodywork in the wind tunnel, fitted a 7-inch TFT, lengthened the subframe by 50 mm and offers the Y-AMT automated gearbox as an option.

Standard equipment

The Tracer 9 is well equipped for its price:

  • 6-axis IMU controlling traction control, slide control, wheelie control, cornering ABS and electronic engine-brake control;
  • cruise control and speed limiter;
  • LED cornering lights that switch on from 7° of lean;
  • 10-position adjustable windscreen, hand guards, emergency stop signal.

The Y-AMT version adds heated grips and self-cancelling indicators.

How does it ride?

Few tests cover the base model: most journalists rode the GT or GT+, which share the engine and frame. The CP3 wins unanimous praise (MCN, Moto-Net, Le Repaire, MOTORRAD, 1000PS), as does the agile chassis (MCN, InMoto, Moto-Net). MCN notes that comfort has improved over the previous generation, and MOTORRAD rates the Y-AMT’s automatic mode as good, but not yet perfect.

Moto-Net, which tested the base model, highlights an ‘excellent sport-GT compromise’ and ‘rich and practical’ standard equipment, but criticises the seat, wind protection that isn’t high enough and a price at its limit. Le Repaire des Motards finds the Y-AMT well executed but prefers the manual gearbox, which offers more control.

Fuel consumption

Yamaha quotes 5.0 L/100 km. For real-world consumption, the reference is the Tracer 9 GT+, which has the same engine: MOTORRAD recorded under 5 L/100 km on it. With a 19-litre tank, range is about 380 km.

Maintenance and warranty

Yamaha’s owner’s manual specifies an oil change every 10,000 km or every year and a valve clearance check every 40,000 km. Yamaha Motor France covers the Tracer 9 for 5 years with unlimited mileage, provided maintenance is recorded in Yamaha’s digital service record.
