CFMoto 450MT

2026 CFMoto 450MT: 42 hp A2 adventure twin with 21/18 wheels and adjustable KYB suspension, €5,999. Full specs, press reviews and rivals.

At a glance

The CFMoto 450MT is a 449 cc adventure bike with a 270° parallel twin, built to leave the tarmac thanks to 21/18-inch tubeless spoked wheels, adjustable KYB suspension with 200 mm of travel and 220 mm of ground clearance. Priced at €5,999 in France and A2 licence compliant without restriction at 42 hp (31 kW), it is one of the cheapest and best-equipped A2 adventure bikes on the market. Reviewers praise its value, its great-sounding engine and its off-road ability (4/5 from MCN and BikeSocial), but criticise the original CST tyres, front brakes lacking bite on the road, snatchy low-speed throttle response and a hefty weight for a 450.

Visordown2024-09

A week and a half of testing in the UK: great-sounding engine, plush suspension and a cracking price; jerky throttle, awkwardly placed high-beam switch and cheap tyres.

Cycle World2025-07

Test of the US-spec Ibex 450: middleweight-class comfort, handling and off-road ability, possibly the best in its class for adventure touring; front brake lacks precision at higher speeds and deep sand is tricky.

1000PS2025-01

Road comparison against the Royal Enfield Himalayan: versatile, easy and great-sounding bike with adjustable suspension, recommended for A2 beginners; vague brake feel, wind protection and stability could be better, high revs at 130 km/h.

MOTORRAD2026-02

Ten-bike A2 adventure test: smooth twin, light clutch, comfortable suspension and seat; single front disc overwhelmed on the road, engine a little short of power off-road. Ranked in the top two alongside the KTM 390 Adventure R, and the best suited to road touring.

SoyMotero2025-12

Balanced bike that is great fun on trails and twisty roads, smooth engine and quality suspension, rated a « notable alto » (very good) for mixed use; abrupt throttle and on-road braking could be better.

Common Tread2026-07

Long-term test of more than a year on the Ibex 450: one of the most capable bikes in its class, oil analyses showing no worrying wear after three services; like its rivals, slightly heavy and slightly underpowered.

Le Repaire des Motards2024-04

Launch test in the Philippines: pleasant, torquey engine, genuine off-road ability, convincing finish and price; behaviour varied between test bikes, and the suspension and brakes need setting up to get the best from it.

Press synthesis

What the world’s press says

Reviews cover the 2024 and 2025 450MT (Ibex 450 in the US), identical to the 2026 bike apart from its colours. MCN and BikeSocial both rate it 4/5, a meta-score of 80/100. Visordown, Cycle World, 1000PS, MOTORRAD, SoyMotero, Common Tread (long-term test) and Le Repaire des Motards tested it without a numeric score.

What reviewers like: unmatched value for money (MCN calls it the highest-spec 300-500 cc dual-sport machine at the lowest price), genuine off-road ability thanks to the 21/18-inch wheels and adjustable KYB suspension, a great-sounding, flexible twin, a low seat and solid build quality. Cycle World suggests it may be the best in its class for adventure touring, and MOTORRAD ranks it in the top two of its ten-bike A2 adventure test, the best suited to road touring. After more than a year with it, Common Tread calls it one of the most capable bikes in its class.

What they criticise: universally panned original CST tyres, front brakes lacking bite and precision on the road, snatchy throttle response at low revs (fixed by an update, according to MCN), suspension delivered too firm, hefty weight for a 450 with a heavy front end at low speeds and in sand, and an engine that runs out of breath above 110-120 km/h. Le Repaire des Motards noticed differences in behaviour between two test bikes and recommends a proper running-in and careful set-up.

The verdict: a very well-conceived A2 adventure bike for the money, which mostly needs better tyres to show its full potential.

Key quotes

"It’s not perfect, but it’s capable off-road, well-mannered on it, with a distinct character and feel of a ‘proper’ bike, not a bike dumbed-down for novices."

MCN — 2024-04

"It's easy to ride and maintain, and with a few tweaks has the potential to take on some tough off-road conditions."

Bennetts BikeSocial — 2024-04

"CFMoto has struck an impressive balance with the Ibex 450, not only does it have middleweight ADV comfort and off-road capability, it does the bigger bike things with less weight and a lower price tag."

Cycle World — 2025-07

"Only 449 cc, but a smooth twin that responds directly. The clutch needs hardly any effort, and the suspension irons out bumps effectively."

MOTORRAD — 2026-02 (Originally in Deutsch)

"Chinese-made motorcycles still haven’t caught up to their European or Japanese counterparts, but they’re not far off. The Ibex 450 proved that much to me during this long-term test."

Common Tread — 2026-07

"Aggressive on price, the 450 MT is less so mechanically, while its overall performance is good and thoroughly convincing, whichever of the two bikes I rode you happen to get."

Le Repaire des Motards — 2024-04 (Originally in Français)

Our review

Which 450MT is sold in France, and for how much?

CFMoto France sells the 450MT in a single version at €5,999 (recommended retail price, excluding delivery and registration fees), in Nebula Black or Zephyr Blue. The website doesn’t state a model year, but these are the 2026 colours: according to CFMoto Australia, MY26 brings only new graphics, with the spec sheet and equipment carried over from the 450MT launched in 2024. The French warranty is 2 years parts and labour: the 450MT doesn’t get the 5-year extension granted to the 700MT and the 800MT models. In the UK, MCN quotes a 4-year warranty, and the German importer offers 5 years or 40,000 km on bikes bought since April 2026.

For comparison, it costs €6,499 in Germany and £5,699 in the UK. In North America it is sold as the Ibex 450, with an MSRP of $6,499 quoted by Cycle World in 2025. In the Benelux countries, the importer also offers a 450MT Rally (Akrapovič silencer, crash bars, high front mudguard and tall seat), which isn’t part of the French range.

How good is the twin?

The 449 cc parallel twin (72 x 55.2 mm, 11.5:1) is shared with the 450NK and 450SR, with a 270° crankshaft (for a V-twin-like sound) and twin balancer shafts to tame vibration. For the 450MT, CFMoto revised the camshaft, intake and exhaust to favour midrange torque. In Europe it makes 42 hp (31 kW) at 8,500 rpm and 42 Nm at 6,250 rpm according to the CFMoto France owner’s manual, so it can be ridden on an A2 licence without restriction. The version sold outside the EU is rated at 32.5 kW and 44 Nm; the French model page mixes the two by quoting 44 Nm. The throttle is cable-operated, with no riding modes, and the six-speed gearbox comes with a slipper clutch.

On Cycle World’s dyno, the US-spec Ibex 450 made 37.1 hp at the rear wheel. Reviewers love the sound and the smooth, vibration-free delivery: MOTORRAD found it willing from 2,000 rpm in fourth gear. MCN, BikeSocial, Visordown and SoyMotero, however, all criticise abrupt pick-up from a closed throttle; MCN adds that an ECU mapping update has greatly improved it. Short gearing limits top-end stretch: the manual quotes 152 km/h, MOTORRAD saw just over 150 km/h on the dash, and Visordown noted around 6,500 rpm at motorway speeds.

How does it handle on the road and on the trail?

The tubular steel frame, with a bolt-on lower cradle and subframe, carries a 41 mm KYB upside-down fork adjustable for compression and rebound, and a linkage-mounted KYB shock adjustable for preload and rebound, with 200 mm of travel at each end. The 21/18-inch tubeless spoked wheels wear CST Ambro A4 dual-purpose tyres. The manual and importers quote 220 mm of ground clearance and a 1,505 mm wheelbase, and the German importer a 26° rake; the CFMoto France page lists 170 mm of ground clearance, an outlier.

Off-road, the verdict is very positive. Cycle World says it will go anywhere a Yamaha Ténéré will, short of hill climbs that demand sheer horsepower; deep sand, where its heavy front end is a handicap, remains its weak spot. BikeSocial found it robust and easy to ride on the dirt. The suspension, delivered too firm according to MCN, MOTORRAD and BikeSocial, improves greatly once the damping adjusters are opened up. On the road, Cycle World praises exceptional front-end feedback. Everyone criticises the original CST tyres for their limited grip and feel.

Mind the weight: CFMoto claims 175 kg dry, the manual 185 kg unladen, and 1000PS gives 196.5 kg with a full tank in its group tests. BikeSocial finds its weight carried high, and 1000PS calls it front-heavy, with a tendency to tip at low speeds.

Are the brakes up to the job?

Up front, a 320 mm disc is gripped by a radial four-piston J.Juan caliper; at the rear, a 240 mm disc works with a single-piston caliper. The two-channel Bosch ABS can be switched off at the rear with a handlebar button, which also disables traction control. CFMoto says front ABS always stays active, as MCN, BikeSocial and Le Repaire des Motards describe; on its first ride, however, MOTORRAD found that a long press disabled front ABS as well: ask your dealer to confirm.

Braking is the press’s main complaint on the road: lack of bite (BikeSocial), a wooden feel at higher speeds (Cycle World), a vague lever and vibration under braking (1000PS), and a single front disc that is overwhelmed on the road (MOTORRAD in 2026). MCN finds it adequate, and its gentle initial bite is an asset on dirt.

What equipment does it have?

Equipment is generous for the price: a 5-inch TFT screen, Bluetooth for phone and intercom, switchable Bosch traction control, full LED lighting, USB-A and USB-C sockets, a tool-free adjustable screen, hand guards, a sump guard, a luggage rack, folding mirrors, off-road footpegs with removable rubbers and an accessory mount above the dash. There are no riding modes, no cruise control and no quickshifter. In Germany, the T-Box connectivity unit (tracking and over-the-air updates through the CFMOTO RIDE app) is standard; CFMoto France doesn’t mention it.

How thirsty is it, and what servicing does it need?

CFMoto France quotes 4.8 L/100 km and 115 g/km of CO2, the manual 4.5 L/100 km at most. With 17.5 litres of fuel, CFMoto claims a range of around 365 km. Foreign press tests recorded between 4.7 L/100 km (1000PS) and 5.6 L/100 km (BikeSocial), with 5.3 L/100 km for Cycle World.

The manual calls for a first service at 1,000 km, then an oil change every 5,000 km or 6 months, new spark plugs every 10,000 km and a valve clearance check at 40,000 km. Full details are in the maintenance section below.

Who are its rivals?

The 450MT targets A2 riders who want a proper adventure bike with a 21-inch front wheel. Among its direct rivals, only the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 is cheaper (€5,890), with a 40 hp single. The KTM 390 Adventure X (€6,199) is lighter but runs 19/17-inch wheels, the Kawasaki KLE500 costs €6,549, the Honda CRF300 Rally €7,199 for 27 hp, and the BMW F 450 GS €7,500. In MOTORRAD’s 2026 test of ten A2 adventure bikes, the 450MT finished in the top two: the KTM 390 Adventure R was judged the most capable off-road, the 450MT the best suited to road touring.

Has it been recalled?

No recall covers the 450MT or the Ibex 450 in France (RappelConso), the European Union (Safety Gate), the United States (NHTSA) or Canada (Transport Canada), based on the databases checked in October 2026. Safety Gate alerts involving CFMoto concern other models (450SR-S, 300NK, 650MT, 700CL-X).

Passenger comfortGood
Wind protectionTool-free height-adjustable screen (knobs)

Max total weight355 kg

The 450MT offers an upright adventure-bike riding position with wide handlebars and an 820 mm seat. Moving the suspension linkage mounting point lowers it to 800 mm (at the cost of some ground clearance), and an 870 mm tall seat is available as an accessory (€199 from CFMoto France). BikeSocial finds the seat wide and soft, and 1000PS says the position suits shorter riders. Taller riders are less well served: MOTORRAD’s 1.83 m tester wanted a taller seat, MCN finds the bars a little low for riding standing up and the tank slightly wide at the knees, and Cycle World says legroom is tight in motocross boots. Standing up, though, Cycle World rates the ergonomics as spot on. The screen adjusts for height by hand via knobs: protection is good according to Cycle World, moderate at higher speeds according to 1000PS. The pillion gets a wide seat and sturdy grab handles (BikeSocial). Payload is 170 kg according to the German importer, with a gross vehicle weight of 355 kg.

Warranty

2 years / Parts and labour; servicing within the CFMoto France network required

The CFMoto France owner’s manual calls for a running-in service at 1,000 km, then an oil and filter change every 5,000 km or 6 months (2.5 litres of SAE 10W-40 JASO MA2); CFMoto France’s maintenance page mentions a service every 5,000 km or once a year. Spark plugs are replaced every 10,000 km, the air filter every 20,000 km or 24 months, coolant every 35,000 km or 24 months and brake fluid every 24 months; valve clearances are checked at 40,000 km. The chain should be lubricated every 600 km. Under severe use (dust, off-road), some intervals must be halved. MCN puts annual servicing at £130 in the UK and lists the issues reported by early owners: a rear subframe that traps water and rusts from the inside, TFT screens replaced under warranty, and snatchy throttle response fixed by an ECU update. On its long-term Ibex 450, Common Tread had the oil analysed at every service, up to more than 10,000 km, with no worrying wear. CFMoto France’s warranty is 2 years parts and labour, with servicing within the network required.
