At a glance
The 2027 Kawasaki Versys 650 is a 67 hp twin-cylinder adventure tourer, restrictable for the A2 licence, priced at €8,449 with a 4-year warranty. The 2027 model year brings only two colours. Reviewers praise its versatility, comfort and value, but find it heavy for its power and regret the lack of cruise control.

Press ratings
Versatile, agile, predictable suspension and adequate brakes: "not the best at anything but quite good at most things".
Versatile, manageable, frugal and excellent value; snatchy below 3,000 rpm, average standard screen, no cruise control.
Easy, comfortable and versatile; lacks low-rpm response, brakes stretched when ridden hard, heavier than the class average.
Previous generation: easy, consistent, comfortable two-up and economical; engine outclassed by the Tracer 700.
Press synthesis
What the world’s press says
The Versys 650 scores 4/5 from MCN (2022) and 4/5 from Bennetts BikeSocial (2025). Cycle World, 1000PS and Moto.it rate it positively, without numeric scores. On the previous generation (2020), Le Repaire des Motards already found it easy, consistent, comfortable two-up and economical, but with an engine outclassed by the Yamaha Tracer 700. No test of the technically identical 2026 and 2027 model years has been published.
What reviewers like: versatility, rider and pillion comfort, ease of use, economy, long range and value for money.
What they criticise: high weight for 67 hp, a lazy engine at low rpm, no cruise control or centre stand, and brakes that are stretched when ridden hard.
Key quotes
"Think of it then as the Volvo estate of two wheels – likely to blend into the backdrop of a busy bike meet, but simple, dependable, and capable of years of hard graft."
"It's a bike you'd buy for the price and then find more and more things to love about it."
"Few motorcycles manage to cover such a wide range of uses as the Versys 650. And at a top price, too!"
"In any case, with the Versys you get an everyday all-rounder that flatters its rider, will take you a long way two-up in complete peace of mind, and can even be fun at times."

Our review
What’s new on the 2027 Versys 650?
Only the colours. Kawasaki France offers two new schemes (Candy Lime Green and Metallic Carbon Gray, with black), and the spec sheet is identical to the 2026 model year. Kawasaki announces availability in November 2026.
The last notable update dates from 2022: a Versys 1000-inspired front end with LED lighting, a tool-free 4-position adjustable screen, a 4.3-inch connected colour TFT and 2-mode KTRC traction control.
How much does it cost?
Kawasaki France lists the 2027 Versys 650 at €8,449, like the 2026. For the 2026, Kawasaki also prices three accessory packs:
- Tourer, €1,050: panniers, hand guards and tank protection;
- Tourer Plus, €1,600: the Tourer pack plus LED fog lights;
- Grand Tourer, €2,600: the Tourer Plus pack plus a top case, tall screen and GPS mount.
The bike can be restricted to 35 kW with a kit for the A2 licence. The warranty is 4 years with unlimited mileage. In the US, only the LT version with panniers is sold ($10,399, 2026 model year).
How good is the engine?
The 649 cc parallel twin (83 x 60 mm), from the ER-6 family, makes 67 hp at 8,500 rpm and 61 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It has neither ride-by-wire nor a slipper clutch. At 219 kg wet, MCN finds its roughly 66 hp insufficient, especially two-up or loaded. 1000PS notes snatchiness below 3,000 rpm, and Moto.it a lack of low-rpm response.
How does it ride?
Reviewers praise an easy, agile and versatile bike, with an adjustable 41 mm inverted fork and shock:
- Cycle World says “it might not be the best at anything but it is quite good at most things”;
- BikeSocial finds it roomy and comfortable for pillions;
- MCN likens it to a Volvo estate: discreet, simple and dependable.
The reservations concern:
- the weight, above the class average (MCN, Moto.it);
- brakes that are stretched when ridden hard (Moto.it);
- no cruise control (1000PS) and no centre stand (BikeSocial);
- a stiff gearbox (BikeSocial) and an average standard screen (1000PS);
- Chinese rivals offering more kit for less money (BikeSocial).
Fuel consumption and maintenance
Kawasaki quotes 4.4 L/100 km. Tests record 4.0 to 5.0 L/100 km; with 21 litres of fuel, range is about 420 km. Kawasaki France’s maintenance schedule specifies an oil change every 12,000 km or every year and a valve clearance check at 42,000 km.
Recalls
No recall concerns the current generation (2022 onwards) on RappelConso, Safety Gate or NHTSA.
