Press ratings
First-rate handling thanks to fully adjustable suspension, comfort, protection and comprehensive equipment; engine lacking character, front brakes lacking initial bite, dash interface could be better, no traction control.
The Sport is the Touring with cast wheels and simpler equipment, for €2,000 less; comfortable but not soft suspension, touring-friendly ergonomics, better perceived quality than other CFMotos; unlacquered decals.
Comfortable and effective on the road, reassuring KYB suspension, good protection; throttle too abrupt in Sport mode, cruise control capped at 80 mph, non-switchable ABS and no off-road mode.
Engine much smoother than in 2022, successful electronic suspension, very comprehensive equipment, 5-year warranty; brakes need a firm hand when riding hard, no hill-start assist.

What the world’s press says
No review of the 800MT Sport + itself was found. The 73/100 meta-score is therefore calculated from the scores of sister versions on the same base: 4/5 from MCN for the 2022 800MT Touring, 3/5 from BikeSocial for the 2024 800MT Sport (the closest to the Sport +) and 4/5 from MCN for the 2026 800MT-ES. MOTORRAD, Rider Magazine (Ibex 800 T, the US Touring), Le Repaire des Motards and Belgium’s MotoJournal.be (800MT Explore ES) tested it without a numeric score.
What reviewers like: unusual equipment for the price (cornering ABS, cruise control, TFT screen), comfort and protection, adjustable KYB suspension judged effective by MOTORRAD, Rider and Le Repaire des Motards, and clearly improved perceived quality. MCN calls the 800MT “China’s best bike so far”, BikeSocial proof that the gap with established brands is closing fast.
What they criticise: an engine that is flat below 6,000 rpm and snatchy fuelling at low revs (BikeSocial, MCN), a 231 kg weight that makes the steering heavy, no traction control (MCN, BikeSocial) or quickshifter (BikeSocial) on the early versions, front brakes lacking bite (Le Repaire des Motards, MotoJournal.be) and a finish still a notch behind European and Japanese bikes according to BikeSocial.
Key quotes
"There’s no dispute, though, that the 800MT is a great, well-equipped all-rounder and China’s best bike so far. And, for £11K, maybe that’s enough."
"The 800MT is impressive, will comfortably defy most riders’ expectations, and proves the gap is closing at an astonishing rate of knots."
"If you are in the market for a middleweight adventure bike, the 800MT-ES is impossible to ignore and will make a great tourer."
"In short, with real arguments in terms of handling, comfort and equipment, the CFMoto 800MTs can easily blaze their own Silk Road. Without being revolutionary, they prove convincing and capable."
"Fully adjustable apart from rear compression damping, the CFMoto 800 MT's suspension is set up to be comfortable but not spongy."
"When all is said and done, this is a fun bike that feels like it’s right on the cusp of staking its claim as a solid adventure-touring bike for a reasonable price."
"From the very first kilometres on this all-new version of the MT, I can see that the Chinese manufacturer has worked flat out. It is a completely different machine."

Our review
Which 800MT in France?
CFMoto France offers three versions of the road-going 800MT. The 800MT Sport +, the entry version, costs €8,999. The 800MT Explore (€10,999 list price, shown at €9,999 with a €1,000 bonus whose offer ended on 30 September 2026) adds an 8-inch CarPlay screen, six riding modes, traction control, a two-way quickshifter, blind-spot radar, a heated seat and grips and a centre stand. The 800MT-ES, new for 2026, takes the Explore and adds electronically adjustable suspension; oddly, it is listed cheaper (€10,599) than the Explore’s list price. The 2022 800MT Touring has left the range.
The 800MT-X, also €8,999, is a separate, off-road-focused model: 21- and 18-inch wheels, 240 mm ground clearance, a 22.5-litre tank, an 870 mm seat and a recalibrated engine (87 Nm at 6,750 rpm).
In the United States, the 800MT is sold as the Ibex 800. In 2023, Rider Magazine quoted $9,499 for the Ibex 800 S and $10,499 for the Ibex 800 T; the current official US price could not be checked.
Which model year?
CFMoto France does not state a model year for the Sport +. It replaces the cast-wheeled 800MT Sport of 2022-2024: spoked wheels, tyre pressure monitoring and crash bars are now standard.
How good is the engine?
The 799 cc parallel twin with a 285° crank is the engine of the old KTM 790 Adventure, which according to MCN CFMoto already built for KTM. In Euro 5+ form it makes 91 hp (67 kW) at 9,250 rpm and 75 Nm at 8,000 rpm, against 95 hp and 77 Nm at launch. The A2 version is restricted to 47.5 hp; conversion to full power is done at a dealer. The German importer quotes 195 km/h for the Explore, which shares this engine; CFMoto France publishes no top speed for the Sport +.
BikeSocial finds the engine flat below 6,000 rpm and the fuelling snatchy at low revs, and MCN notes the same jerkiness on the 2026 800MT-ES. MotoJournal.be, by contrast, finds the current engine much smoother than in 2022.
How does it ride?
The tubular steel frame carries an adjustable KYB upside-down fork with 160 mm of travel and a KYB shock with 150 mm. The wheelbase is 1,531 mm and ground clearance 190 mm. The spoked wheels take 110/80 R19 and 150/70 R17 tyres. The J.Juan brakes combine twin 320 mm discs with radial calipers and a 260 mm rear disc, with non-switchable cornering ABS.
CFMoto France quotes 231 kg without stating the weighing condition; the German importer gives the same figure, ready to ride, for the Explore. The rake angle published for the Explore (25°) differs from the one quoted by BikeSocial (28°).
MOTORRAD finds the suspension comfortable but not soft, MCN the chassis neutral. BikeSocial notes heavy steering, Le Repaire des Motards front brakes that lack initial bite.
What equipment?
The Sport + has two riding modes (Sport and Rain), cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, a 7-inch TFT screen linked to the CFMOTO RIDE app, crash bars with LED fog lights, USB and 12 V sockets and a luggage rack. It has no quickshifter.
Traction control is unclear: the FAQ on CFMoto France’s page lists it as standard, but the spec sheet on the same page only mentions ABS and cornering ABS, and the 2022-2024 800MT Sport had none according to MCN and BikeSocial. It is worth checking with a dealer.
Fuel consumption and maintenance
CFMoto quotes 5 L/100 km, giving a range of about 380 km from the 19-litre tank. Rider Magazine recorded 5.3 L/100 km on the Ibex 800 T, BikeSocial 5.8 L/100 km on the 800MT Sport. CFMoto France specifies a running-in service at 1,000 km, then a service every 15,000 km or every year. The warranty is 5 years.
Recalls
No recall affects the 800MT in France or the European Union (RappelConso, Safety Gate). In the United States, NHTSA published recall 24V-609 in 2024 for 850 model-year 2023 Ibex 800 S and T: the throttle cable could bend and break, causing the engine to stall. Whether it applies to European 800MTs has not been established.
